Saint George and the Dragon

Today in all Spain, and specially in Catalonia, it's "Diada the Sant Jordi" (Saint George's day). This is a celebration based on the legend of Saint George and the Dragon, although nowadays it's considered to be like an spanish version of Valentine's day.
The Legend says....

.... that in the Middle Age, a village was being attacked by a dragon. To keep away the dragon, the king decided to feed him with two animial per day, but this didn't last for many months. When there weren't more animals, the king decided to sacrifice one of the citizens each day randomly selected. The princess was the first chosen to face the beast, and although their parents were very sad they had to let her go. When the princess was going to confront the dragon, Saint George, who was a really brave and coraugeous knight, killed the beast. From the blood that came out of the monster, some roses appeared and he gave one of them to the princess. They both returned to the village where they got married and lived happily ever after.

Today is considered as a romantic tradition where the man has to give her a rose and the woman has to give him a book. Every 23th of April the streets are full of people, specially couples, who buy books and roses in the parades. In the centre of Barcelona, lots of important writters are concentred to sign their books, such as Federicco Moccia, Donna Leon or even the mediatic Belen Esteban. I'm single, and I've never received any rose but this year even I've haven't got one from any secret admirer... my friend's mother has given me my first Sant Jordi's rose!! I'm really happy because I didn't expect to have it. However I'm hoping next year to get one from a guy, even if it's a random guy, I'd not care because it's a nice detail.

So boys and girls out there, if you want to get attention from your crush....please don't be afraid!! All girls are waiting for their prince and who knows maybe a simple rose could lead to a milion things... And all the boys have their inner romantic vein and maybe they're just waiting for you to come... and maybe a book is the perfect occasion to get closer

Love,
Becca
